iPhone Pic Project Turns 180
Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 04:16PM The #iphonepicoftheday turned 180 today. Personally the memories that are attached with these pics are usually greater then the photos. Whether it's eating at Dirty Al's with friends, hanging out at the beach with the family, late night runs to Walmart with Lu, celebrating weddings and birthdays, they help me recall smaller portions of life that are sometimes easily forgotten.
Below are some of my favorites, you can check out the rest here.

iPhone Hipstamatic saves the pic of the day project
Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 04:36PM I took a break from the iphone pic of the day project while on vacation last week. Honestly before the vacation I was getting to a point where the project was becoming to feel like a chore. What was once a break from the norm had become systematic.
On the second day of our trip my sister showed me new camera app called Hipstamatic. This app emulates old plastic cameras and also give you the option to switch virtual lens, flash, and film. At first I thought it was just another novelty app, but what app on the iphone isn't a novelty.
This app made it fun to take pics again. I wasn't too crazy about the wait time from taking the pic and seeing the final, but I guess it adds to the suspense of looking at it.
So hip hip hooray for Hipstamatic. Here's just a few shots from the first couple of days with it.

Taking a break
Friday, December 25, 2009 at 05:13PM Merry Christmas everyone, I hope this day has been filled with love and joy.
Lu and I are taking a much needed vacation to spend time with family, friends, and each other. So for the next couple of days I will be taking a break from facebook, twitter, and the iPhone pic of the day. Have a Happy New Year.
When Lowering Expectations Isn't So Bad
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:54AM Last week I volunteered to pick up some food, from the local Olive Garden, for Lulu's volunteer Christmas party. I showed up about 10 minutes early, payed for the food and I sat down. The waitress said it would be out in 10 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes, I thought, well it's alot of food and they have to pack it up. Around that time the waitress came by again and said it would be out in 5 minutes. Needless to say this continued and "5 minutes" soon turned into "any minute" and then "any second." By the time I got out of there I had been waiting for 50 minutes.
I don't fault them for taking a long time in preparing the order. Working several years in the food industry has made me appreciate what it takes to get orders out. The thing that bugged me the most wasn't the time but the unrealistic expectations that were set.
There has been instances where I have given unrealistic expectations on project deadlines and what can be created with the time allowed. In most cases, this always leads to late nights or upset clients.
What If the waitress would have come to me and said, "Sir, we are really swamped right now and it's going to take longer then expected." I still would probably still be upset but at least that gives them room to surprise me. Same thing with working with departments on projects.
Being upfront and truthful in the beginning gives me the opportunity to surprise the client. Maybe I'm able to turn around a project in one week instead of the three. Or maybe I can spend more time on research and sketching which will in turn give them a better piece at the end.
This is something I need to work on this coming year. Being able to gauge my time and abilities to set real, achievable expectations.
